25 Years of Studio Simoncini: Marking a Special Moment

25 years of ballet with The Hague’s Mirella Simoncini

On 6 January 2027, we celebrate 25 years since Mirella Simoncini began building Studio Simoncini into the ballet school it is today. It’s something to reflect on with a smile.

We no longer know exactly when the very first class took place in 2002. But sometime that year, Mirella called out her very first plié.

Because an anniversary deserves a date, we’ve chosen Wednesday 6 January 2027 as our symbolic anniversary date. Wednesday is the studio’s longest class day, attended by students many of whom have been dancing at Studio Simoncini for more than 10 years, and some for as long as 25 years.

Plié

According to a rough AI-assisted estimate, Mirella has taught approximately 19,500 ballet classes over the past 25 years. And according to the same calculation, she has said the word “plié” out loud at least 700.000 times.

And that is not just a word.

Plié is fundamental to ballet technique: building strength, safe landings, balance and stability, and above all resilience. And those happen to be some of the key ingredients Studio Simoncini has been working with for 25 years.

CLASS

There won’t be a big anniversary party. However, there is time to pause and reflect on this wonderful milestone. And to quietly enjoy 25 years of love for dance.

And then?

Then the studio door opens again, and class simply begins.

5, 6, 7, 8… Plié

“Ballet should never look predictable. When you dance each move you make is a promise. Even when standing in preparation you are making a promise that there is a story to be told”
